The Golf Simulator Technology That Makes It Real Golf
Every bay runs a ProTee VX launch monitor, ProTee Labs data software and GSpro simulation. Your real swing, measured properly, on 2,500-plus courses.
Is It Actually Real Golf? Yes. Here's the Proof.
Fair question. Plenty of places will sell you golf that’s really a big TV and a guess.
The Bay is built differently. You hit real balls, with real clubs, into a full-size impact surface. A camera-based launch monitor photographs your club and ball at the exact moment of impact.
From those frames, the system calculates the physics of your shot. Not an estimate of it. The flight you see on the course is the flight your swing produced.
How a Golf Simulator Works at The Bay
Three systems run every shot, in every bay, in under a second.
The ProTee VX measures
A camera-based launch monitor reads more than 20 metrics per shot: ball speed, total spin, spin axis, launch angle, club speed, club path, face angle, attack angle, and where on the face you struck it.
ProTee Labs remembers
The data software builds your dispersion charts, maps your real carry distance for every club, and replays your impact frame by frame. Its AI Swing Trainer reads your body through the swing and tells you what to fix, and why.
GSpro plays it out
Your shot data renders live on any of 2,500-plus courses, including faithful replicas of Augusta National, Pebble Beach and St Andrews. New courses release weekly.

Your Data Works for Every Player in the Bay
We adjust the setup for every group, so a first-timer and a single-figure golfer share a bay and both play a round they enjoy.
Never held a club? The data shows you what happened without anyone hovering. Chasing your handicap? Your carry distances, club path and strike pattern are on the 42-inch bay display after every swing.
That’s coaching-grade feedback, included with every session. Most golfers learn more about their swing in one bay hour than a season of guessing from ball flight alone.
The Honest Answer on Accuracy
No launch monitor maker publishes an accuracy percentage. Not ProTee, not anyone. Any venue quoting one is quoting marketing.
What exists is independent evidence. PlayBetter tested the ProTee VX shot for shot against tour-grade systems and published the full review. Darren spent two years evaluating the market against exactly that evidence before choosing this stack.
The short version: the part of golf your technique controls is measured, and it holds up. Read what the data actually says about simulator accuracy.
Golf Simulator Questions, Answered
How does a golf simulator work?
A golf simulator measures your club and ball at the moment of impact, then calculates the resulting flight on a rendered course. At The Bay in Kirrawee, a ProTee VX launch monitor feeds GSpro simulation in every bay, with your data on the bay display within a second. The fastest way to understand it is to hit three balls. Book a Bay and see.
What is a launch monitor in golf?
A launch monitor is the device that measures what your ball and club do at impact: ball speed, spin, launch angle, club path and more. The Bay runs the camera-based ProTee VX in all five simulator bays, serving Kirrawee, Caringbah, and the Sutherland Shire. Our ProTee VX guide covers every metric.
How does a launch monitor work?
Camera-based launch monitors photograph the club and ball through impact with high-speed cameras, then calculate the shot’s physics from those frames. The ProTee VX at The Bay also photographs where on the face you struck the ball. That impact map is feedback most golfers have never seen.
What is the difference between a golf simulator and a launch monitor?
The launch monitor measures the shot; the simulator uses that data to play it out on a course. At The Bay they work as one system: ProTee VX measuring, ProTee Labs analysing, GSpro rendering. You experience it as one thing: your real golf, indoors.
What technology does The Bay use?
The Bay runs ProTee VX launch monitors, ProTee Labs data software and GSpro simulation in every bay, with dual high-speed swing cameras included. All five bays are identical, so your numbers read the same wherever you play. The full breakdown is in our technology explainer.
Is GSpro a golf simulator?
Yes. GSpro is the simulation platform that renders your ball flight on more than 2,500 courses, built by a global community of designers from real course data. At The Bay it runs off your ProTee VX shot data, so the course responds to your actual swing.
How does GSpro work?
GSpro receives your measured launch conditions and calculates exactly where that ball would travel on the course you’re playing. Fairways, greens and hazards match the real layouts. Push one right at the Sawgrass replica’s 17th and you’re wet, same as Florida.
How does a simulator measure ball speed?
High-speed cameras capture the ball immediately after impact, and its velocity is calculated from those frames. Ball speed appears on The Bay’s bay display within a second of your shot. It’s the single biggest driver of distance, so it’s the first number worth watching.
How accurate are golf simulators?
Highly accurate for everything your technique controls, though no manufacturer publishes a percentage and independent testing is the real evidence. We’ve written the honest, detailed answer in Are Golf Simulators Accurate? What the Data Actually Says.
What courses can you play on a golf simulator?
At The Bay, more than 2,500 via GSpro, including faithful replicas of Augusta National, Pebble Beach, TPC Sawgrass and Australia’s Barnbougle Dunes. New courses release weekly. The headliners are in our GSpro course list.
